Study Eight: Jesus is Alive.

Return to the Death of Christ Index       Return to Main Index

Luke 24:1-12 "Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, carrying the spices that they had prepared. When they found the stone rolled away from the entrance, they went in. But they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus, and they did not know what to think.

Suddenly two men in shining white clothes stood beside them. The women were afraid and bowed to the ground. But the men said, "Why are you looking in the place of the dead for someone who is alive? Jesus is not here! He has been raised from death. Remember that while he was still in Galilee, he told you, "The Son of Man will be handed over to sinners who will nail him to a cross. But three days later he will rise to life.' "

Then they remembered what Jesus had said.

Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and some other women were the ones who had gone to the tomb. When they returned, they told the eleven apostles and the others what had happened. The apostles thought it was all nonsense, and they would not believe.

But Peter ran to the tomb. And when he stooped down and looked in, he saw only the burial clothes. Then he returned, wondering what had happened."

1. Why were the women going to the tomb of Jesus?        _________________________________

2. Where did the angels say Jesus was? ______________________________________________

3. What was the first reaction of the disciples to being told that Jesus is alive?

4. What was Peters' reaction after he went to the tomb? ______________________________________________________________________________

1 Corinthians 15:3-9 "I told you the most important part of the message, and you believed it. That part is: Christ died for our sins, as the Scripture say, He was buried, and three days later he was raised to life, as the Scriptures say. Christ appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After this, he appeared
to more than five hundred other followers. Most of them are still alive, but some have died. He also appeared to James, and then to all the apostles. 8finally, he appeared to me, even though I am like someone who was born at the wrong time"

5. Name five different groups of people that Jesus appeared to?

The facts show that Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment that we deserve. When he came back to life it showed that he had power over death. When we ask Jesus to be our Lord he forgives us of our sin on the basis that he has beaten death.

6. Knowing the facts that Jesus has come to life again is not enough, we need to ask Jesus personally to be our Lord. Have you done this in your life? Why?
